NAB, the platform for the launch of a multitude of new products, certainly didn't disappoint this year (unless you had to wait for days to get a flight home!). The companies that we represent all had new offerings and you can read about some of them below. If you've got any questions we'll be happy to answer them for you.

By the way, you can download the latest edition of Stages, the Stagetec magazine, from any of the Stagetec pages on our website www.aspen-media.com/stagetec. Articles include: Broadcast and Theatre installations, a truly enormous Convention Centre application for NEXUS and CRESCENDO in Tashkent and a very informative item about SDI and Dolby E® - I found it interesting and thought you would too.

 Kind regards

Sue Hurd

RTW Names New Monitor After Our Newsletter - What Taste!

RTW wowed the crowds at NAB with its new TouchMonitor and rightly so, it's a ground-breaking touch screen concept new to the professional audio metering market.

The TouchMonitor can be controlled with a finger or a mouse and you decide what you want to see on the screen at any one time - Surround Sound Analyser, Loudness, PPMs, Spectrum Analyser, it's all there, or not as the case might be. It's a modular system so you only buy  what you require and then purchase extra software modules as and when you need them.

Now we don't want your excitement to peak too soon because the earliest time we've got for delivery is Q4 and hey we've got loads of stuff we'd love to sell you before then. Why not come along and see what RTW has to offer at the AES May 23rd to 25th at Novotel London West in Hammersmith - you can register herewww.aes.org. You'll be able to see the TouchMonitor and we look forward to hearing what you think.

Like us RTW has also got a swanky new websitewww.rtw.de.

JLCooper Adds BTX to Eclipse Range

As usual our friends at JLCooper have been working hard in sunny El Segundo, California to bring several new products to NAB. Is it the sunshine that makes them so industrious? It just makes me want to sit outsidewith a cold glass of Sauvignon B!

The latest addition to the Eclipse range of control products for Apple Color is the Eclipse BTX, a fully configured transport and edit expansion option that gives access to the "Rooms" in Color. The main aim of any control surface should be to speed up workflow and the BTX certainly doesn't disappoint. It has a wealth of controls including 23 white illuminated function keys that you can program with your favourite keyboard shortcuts, JLCooper's custom jog/shuttle to shoot up and down the timeline, professional transport keys, timecode display - well you name it, it's probably got it.

The Eclipse SX (left) and BTX pairing provides the modular equivalent of the Eclipse CX Midnight. It's ideal if you are left handed as you can position each panel on whichever side of the desk suits you best. And the added bonus, the SX/BTX combo looks pretty smart on the desk and will impress any discerning client.

I can't show you everything that's new from JLCooper in this newsletter, however I thought you'd want to know that two and four channel versions of the ES450SP and ES450J  remote for VTR/DDRs will be shipping in the next quarter. This will mean that you can control 1, 2, 3 or 4 machines from one small remote box - so you'll only need to get up from your desk for a coffee!

3G SDI Capable Stagetec NEXUS Routing System Helps Maintain Sync

Launched at the show on the Stagetec booth was the XHDI 02 plug-in card for the NEXUS audio routing system.

The XHDI 02 de-embeds, processes and re-embeds all 16 channels of audio associated with the video in the SDI stream and by adding  sample-rate converters to the XHDI 02, even audio from asynchronous incoming signals can be safely de-embedded and re-embedded.

And for perfect lip-sync the XHDI 2 can compensate for the delays inherent in the Dolby E® decoding and coding process of an adjacent XDED or XDEE interface. (NEXUS Dolby E® Decoder and encoder cards.)

The XHDI 02 is compatible with as many SDI formats and data rates as you can think of, from 270 Mbit/s for SD-SDI, to the new 3G-SDI needed for the 1080p50/60 formats used for hi-end broadcast and digital film production.

Major broadcasters, tpc and RTS in Switzerland are already using the NEXUS XHDI 02 boards for their HD broadcasts and ARD in Germany is very keen to upgrade its NEXUS system for 1080p50/60 video formats.

You can read more about SDI, Dolby and the XHDI 02 on this page of the Stages magazinewww.stagetec.com/stagesxhdi02

What's New On The Website in April

Ihope you've had a chance to take a look at our new website www.aspen-media.com even if it's just to check if you were the winner in our HP Netbook competition! Someone won, was it you?

We update the site regularly and as well as the Stages magazine I mentioned, you can read an interesting article entitled "Solving the Loudness Puzzle" from the magazine of the European Broadcast Union tech-i www.aspen-media.com/articles. You'll also see the article from TV-Bay magazine on Loudness control - a question and answer session with Mike Kahsnitz the Technical Director at RTW. He knows what he's talking about and he's been a regular contributor to the P/LOUD group looking into the whole thorny Loudness issue.

Read about the mid-sized console from Stagetec, the Crescendo www.aspen-media.com/crescendo. You'll find a mixer comparison chart on this page too that gives an idea of the main differences between the Stagetec consoles.

There are new brochures available for the Stagetec Nexus Star router and the Stagetec Auratus mixing consolewww.aspen-media.com/brochuresThere's already a good stock of brochures downloadable, but addwww.aspen-media.com to your "Favorites" so you can keep up-to-date with the latest products, brochures, news, articles etc as we add them.

If you would like information about any of the products we supply, speak to Kirsty on 01296 681313, she's new, she's nice and she'd love to chat. Alternatively feel free to email touch@aspen-media.com
